(Summary description)From April 3 to 4, 2014, the two-day 3rd Asian Mediation Association (AMA) Conference was held in Hong Kong. The conference is hosted by the Asian Mediation Association, undertaken by the Hong Kong Mediation Center, South China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration, or SCIA), Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Commercial Mediation Alliance, Hong Kong Law Society, Indonesia Mediation Center, Malaysia Mediation Center, and Philippines Mediation Center, Singapore Mediation Center, etc. as supporting institutions. Nearly 400 professionals from the Mainland, Hong Kong and other countries and regions participated in this event. This conference is based on the "New Era of Mediation-From the Legal Framework"

The conference is hosted by the Asian Mediation Association, undertaken by the Hong Kong Mediation Center, South China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration, or SCIA), Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Commercial Mediation Alliance, Hong Kong Law Society, Indonesia Mediation Center, Malaysia Mediation Center, and Philippines Mediation Center, Singapore Mediation Center, etc. as supporting institutions. Nearly 400 professionals from the Mainland, Hong Kong and other countries and regions participated in this event.
The theme of this conference is "A New Era of Mediation-Discussing the Innovation and Development of Mediation System from the Perspective of Legal Framework and Social Changes". The main issues discussed include the reform and mediation of the civil justice system, the opportunities and challenges of mediation in Asia, and the mediation of the courts. The role of mediation, mediation standards and practices from a legal perspective, mediation theory trends, cultural and social factors in mediation practice, cultural factors in family mediation, and mediation best practices and examples sharing.
Mr. Liu Xiaochun, Vice Chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Commercial Mediation Alliance and Secretary-General of SCIA, was invited to be the guest speaker in the session of "Sharing Mediation Best Practices and Examples". Secretary-General Liu Xiaochun introduced the latest development of China's commercial mediation to the delegates from the perspective of the SCIA's innovative dispute resolution mechanism. Chinese and foreign experts and scholars have responded enthusiastically to SCIA's six innovative mechanisms in the field of mediation and their practical effects. In particular, the innovative business model of the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Commercial Mediation Alliance" whose secretariat is located in Qianhai has attracted particular attention.
